Kogi Polytechnic sacks lecturers for gross misconduct, sexual harassment, fraud

 

The Management of Kogi State Polytechnic has terminated four Lecturers for alleged gross misconduct bordering sexual harassment and victimisation of female students, absconding from duties, insubordination, falsification of records, disobedience to lawful order, and diversion of TETFUND training grant, among other offences.

 

On Thursday, Uredo Omale, head of the Institution’s Public Relations and Protocol Unit, disclosed this in a statement.

Omale stated that this was decided at the 68th Regular Meeting of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, held on March 8, 2023.

Mr. Abutu Thompson Okolo, Department of Language and Communication, Mr. Ipinmoroti Samuel Adejoro, Adegoke Kehinde Vivian (both of the Department of Architectural Technology), and Mr. Sylvester Ojone Blessing, Registry Department, have been dismissed, according to the statement.

 

Thompson, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Communication, was terminated for sexual harassment and victimisation of a female student in the Department of Computer Science, according to Omale.

She added that Ipinmoroti Samuel Adejoro and Adegoke Kehinde Vivian were fired for disobedience to lawful order, falsification of documents to obtain a training grant, and diversion of the aforementioned training grant in the amounts of $22,676,500.00 and $21,204,000.00, respectively.

The institution’s image maker also stated that the Council directed the Management to use all available legal means to recover from Ipinmoroti and Adegoke the sums of RM22,676,500 and RM21,204,00, respectively, which are the funds they fraudulently collected as training grants without attending the approved Malaysian university.

Sylvester Ojone According to Omale, Blessing was terminated for desertion from 5 January 2020 to 31 July 2022.

 

Ojone must repay the sum of N1,356,653.79, which represents the unearned salaries he received from the government during his period of absence.

 

In a related development, the Polytechnic terminated the employment of Mr. Aremu Oloruntoba Samuel of the Department of Social Science and Humanities, School of General and Communication Studies, for gross misconduct bordering on extortion of students under the guise of Continual Assessment (CA).

 

Therefore, the probationary appointment of one Aremu was terminated, and he was ordered to refund the amount of Two Hundred Ten Thousand Nigerian Naira (N210,000.00) that he illegally collected from the students for Continuous Assessment (CA).
