Uganda Pastor closes church after winning 100 million through sports betting

 

David Ochieng, a pastor from Uganda, gave up his job as a minister after winning a sizable sum through sports betting.

 

He reportedly won 100 million UGX (N21 million) and shut down his church, leaving the congregation in shock and disbelief, according to local media.

He closed down the building and left his congregation members stranded when they arrived for midweek service after realising that he is now 100 million shillings richer.

 

When visitors from the church discovered the gate was locked, they were startled and unsure of what to do.

When the clergyman was contacted, he confessed that his decision to work in God’s vineyard was solely motivated by the need for financial support and not because he felt called.

 

Ochieng went on to say that the victory was a gift from God and that it would help him escape the poverty he was in because he was unable to support himself from the donations he received from his underprivileged congregation.
