Brazil Names 2024 Copa America Squad, Neymar Excluded Due to Injury

Brazil’s national football team has announced its squad for the 2024 Copa America tournament, which will take place in the United States from June 20 to July 14.

The squad, selected by coach Dorival Junior, includes 23 players, with notable exclusions such as Neymar, who has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury in October.

Teenage phenomenon Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid from Palmeiras in July, has been named in the squad, alongside Real Madrid forwards Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo. FC Porto attacker Evanilson is the only new call-up for the tournament.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro and veteran defender Thiago Silva, who will leave Chelsea for Fluminense at the end of the season, have been omitted from the squad. Girona forward Savio and his club teammate Yan Couto have also been selected.

Coach Dorival Junior, who took over as Brazil’s coach in January, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to adapt to his coaching style and achieve success in the tournament. “We have a competition that requires a lot of time together. This team will have the conditions to accomplish everything we envisage achieving,” he said.

Brazil, who lost the 2021 Copa America final to Argentina, will face Colombia, Paraguay, and Costa Rica in Group D. They will also play friendlies against Mexico and the USA before beginning their campaign on June 24.
