Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will look to earn their first points of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when they face hosts Egypt on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (Nigerian time) at Cairo International Stadium in Cairo, Egypt..


Nigeria lost 1-0 to Senegal’s Junior Teranga Lions in their first match at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, but they still have a chance to qualify.

Egypt’s coach, Mahmoud Gaber, says his team is ready and motivated to face Nigeria on Wednesday in the penultimate match of the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

In the opening match of the 23rd edition of the U-20 AFCON, the hosts were held to a frustrating goalless draw by a tenacious Mozambique.

They dominated large parts of the game at Cairo International Stadium, but fell short in front of their home fans in the capital.

We started working right after the game against Mozambique,” Gaber confirmed. “Everyone is prepared, and we’re determined to win.”


“It’s possible that we’ll change our approach against Nigeria. “We watched the Nigeria-Senegal match and prepared well,” Gaber added.

“We had a low defensive block against Mozambique, which we will not have against Nigeria due to the different style of play.”
