Nnamdi Kanu, naira redesign: ‘You will suffer’ – Fr Mbaka issues ultimatum to Buhari, Emefiele

Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, a Catholic priest, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari not to keep holding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

On Sunday, in what could be seen as his most important message to the country since he got back from his long travel to the monastery, the fiery priest warned Buhari of bad things that would happen if his government kept Kanu.

He did not spare the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, when it came to the lack of new naira notes. Mbaka said that Buhari and Emefiele would be hurt if they didn’t act right away.

 

1) Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has thrown his support behind the new naira currency. He has also asked commercial banks to move quickly so that all Nigerians can use the new notes. 2) The Northern Elders Council (NEC), a large social and political group in the north, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to handle events leading up to the general elections with care to make sure the process is fair, open, and free of animosity. It told the government led by Buhari to be careful about what it called “non-state actors” in the corridors of power.

3) The National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, said yesterday that the organization has not called for mass actions against the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the shortage of both the newly redesigned naira notes and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) because it is afraid that those in power will change the dates of the elections in February and March.

4) After the crisis with the new Naira notes, the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, said yesterday that the Central Bank of Nigeria lied to President Muhammadu Buhari and that the CBN wanted to stop the elections from happening.

5) President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken out against what he called the “horrific attack” on vigilantes in the Yargoje forest in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, where many people died. In a statement released by his spokesman Malam Garba Shehu on Sunday, the President paid tribute to all of the vigilantes and family members who had died.

6) On Saturday, a two-story building where three workers were working fell down in Aluu community, Ikwerre LGA, Rivers State. Mr. Ngene James, Head of the Disaster Management Rescue Team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers, said in a statement that the corps’ rescue team went to the site as soon as it got a call for help.

7) Abdulrahman Woru, 38, of Gbesewona village in the Benin Republic, who lives in the Babana area of Borgu LGA, was caught with a human skull by police in Niger State. In a statement, the command’s spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said that during a search of the suspect’s house, three human ribs and two idols were found along with the skull.

8) Yoruba traditional rulers, under the umbrella of the Yoruba Obas Forum, have spoken out against the country’s continued lack of Premium Motor Spirit, which is more commonly known as petrol. They have asked the federal government to do something about the growing crisis right away. 9) A branch of a new generation bank in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti, got into trouble on Sunday when the Central Bank of Nigeria found N6 million in new naira notes that had been hidden there. The Apex bank’s Deputy Director, Oluwole Owoeye, led a team of officials on a monitoring exercise in the State when they found the hoarded newly redesigned notes.
