New Naira Notes: Pressure Mounts On CBN To Extend Jan 31 Deadline

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is under more pressure to postpone the January 31 deadline for the phase-out of the old N1,000, N500, and N200 notes. The new notes are nowhere to be found, according to relevant stakeholders, who also claim that the deadline is impossible.

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC),  Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State, and others have added their voices in support of delaying or completely scrapping the policy ntil the nation is ready.

They made the decision with only three days left before the deadline of January 31 as citizens all over the nation complained of extreme hardship due to their inability to use the redesigned naira notes from the banking hall or the ATMs (ATMs).

 

1) The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has denounced the assassinations committed by unidentified gunmen in Southeast States. This information was provided by the group in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday and signed by MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Samuel Edeson.
