1) Wike Defends Tinubu Fuel Subsidy Removal
Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidies, stating that Nigeria is a difficult country to govern. On Friday, he made this statement during a brief interactive session with state house correspondents.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a nationwide strike beginning on Wednesday as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy-related price increases at the pump. Briefing journalists at the end of NLC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, said the union had agreed on a nationwide strike.
Senator George Akume, the former Minister of Special Duties, has been appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation by President Bola Tinubu. He also announced the official appointment of Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the House of Representatives, as his chief of staff.
4) Benue State Government dissolves state assembly
The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, dissolved the state’s ninth assembly on Friday after the Clerk of the House, Bernard Nule, issued and read the dissolution order. During the valedictory session held by the members of the House, Nule read the dissolution order.
5) PGF Back Tinubu Fuel Subsidy Removal
The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has backed the Federal Government’s decision to eliminate petrol subsidies. Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu during a courtesy call to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
6) Suspended Plateau Chairmen Declares their suspension null
Local administration Chairmen in Plateau State have declared that the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang has no power to suspend them from office. The governor announced the suspension of all 17 LG Chairmen on Thursday, citing their inability to submit expenditure accounts. Friday, however, the council chairmen swiftly rejected the suspension.
A court in Makurdi, Benue State, upheld Iyorchia Ayu’s suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party and his subsequent removal as the party’s national chairman. Friday’s ruling by Justice Maurice Ikpambese stated that Ayu did not contest the fact that he had not paid his debts on time.

The Ondo State Police Command announced on Friday that an investigation into the death of Alhaja Kadijat Falekulo has begun. Unknown assailants reportedly murdered the 70-year-old woman in her room in the Sabo neighbourhood of Ondo town, Ondo State. A machete cut was seen on her neck.
10) Rivers State Police kills 4 alleged Cultists
On Friday, members of the Rivers State Police Command killed four alleged cultists terrorising Rundele and neighbouring communities in the Emuoha Local Government Area. Friday at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the state police commissioner, Polycarp Emeka, alleged that the suspects were responsible for the murder of four people, including two vigilantes.
