What are the Nigerian newspapers’ headlines for today?

 

 

1) Violence erupted along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Monday, as supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, clashed over the outcome of the March 18 governorship election. At least one individual was killed, and multiple others were injured.

 

2) The former spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, has passed away. On Monday, Maigida reportedly collapsed and died in the nation’s capital.

3) Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, announced the death of his wife, Mrs. Ifeoma Ada Kalu, yesterday. In a Monday social media post, the Senate Chief Whip announced the news and urged the public to remember Mrs. Ifeoma and her loved ones in their prayers during this difficult time. Read More

 

4) Yesterday, there were strong indications that the struggle for the leadership of both houses of the National Assembly has unsettled the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was discovered that the ruling party has been fractured by various interest groups lobbying for Senate and House leadership positions.

 

5) Several pro-Tinubu protesters halted operations at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and passed a vote of confidence in the electoral official yesterday. The protesters, under the auspices of The Natives, also urged the United States, the United Kingdom, and the international community not to promote insurrection in Nigeria with their statements regarding the 25th of February elections.

6) A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) has asserted that the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and the Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, have transformed the party into an autocratic and regressive organisation. Salihu Moh Lukman, a member of the NWC, claimed that Adamu and Omisore have violated the party’s constitution and failed to account for the millions of naira that have been deposited into the party’s coffers since they took office.

 

7) Yesterday, heavily armed police officers and officials of the Department of State Service, DSS, stormed the residence of the embattled Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Frederick Nwajagu, for the second time, after he was arrested last Friday, following a Twitter video threatening to invite members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to secure the properties of Igbo people in Lagos.

 

8) In Delta State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, announced the expulsion of the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, from the party yesterday. Omo-Agege was expelled for alleged anti-party activities and other offences that were not specified.

9) Samaila Salisu and Aminu Salisu were sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Ibrahim Alhassan by the Kano State High Court No. 2, presided over by Justice Yusuf Ubale. Intent on committing an armed robbery, the Magangara village, Kura Local Government Area, Kano State, inmates stormed the residence of Ibrahim Alhassan and shot him to death.

 

10) Mr. Obiajulu Uja, an anti-Tinubu passenger on an Abuja-Lagos flight, was arraigned before the Zuba Magistrates’ Court in Abuja and remanded to prison custody. Uja was removed from a Lagos-Abuja flight on Friday evening after he began a solitary protest demanding that Bola Tinubu not be sworn in as president on May 29.
