Here is why A Nigerian Soldier is To Die By Hanging

A member of the Nigerian Army 7 Division General was given the death penalty by the Court Martial of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army.

Private Musa Saleh, the officer, was sentenced to death by hanging for attempting to murder a fellow soldier in Mafa Town, Borno State.

The court martial also stated that the soldier assigned to the 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa killed five innocent people, injured others, and left others permanently disabled.

According to the President of the Court Martial, Brig.-Gen. Richard Pam, the convict was on trial for a four-count charge bordering on murder, assault, and attempted murder, and the officer pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to Brig.-Gen. Pam, the pleas caused the court to shift the burden of proof of charges to the prosecution counsel.

He noted that the prosecution counsel called six witnesses and tendered eleven exhibits to establish the charges, whereas the defence counsel called one witness and tendered one exhibit.

According to the senior military officer, after careful consideration of the evidence presented to court martial, the court declared that there was a clear violation of codified laws and passed its judgment.

“The sentence of this General Court called Martial on you is death by hanging on count one, 24 months’ imprisonment on count two, 24 months’ imprisonment on count three, and life imprisonment on count four,” he declared.

“The matter between the Nigerian Army and Private Musa Saleh has come to an end,” Defence Counsel Habib Kabura Batuncha told journalists.

The judgment is subject to confirmation by the authority, and the convict has the right to appeal within three months, according to the President of the Court Martial.
