NLC Announces Plan To Disrupt Imo State Aviation Sector

Following the alleged disruption of May Day celebrations by state governor Hope Uzodinma, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced plans to shut down the aviation industry in Imo State.

In an official letter addressed to the Lagos branch of the Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, the General Secretary of the Labour movement, instructed the Lagos State Council to immediately mobilise its affiliate unions in the aviation sector to prevent any flight from departing Lagos State for Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Shortly after the May Day celebrations were disrupted, the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the NLC held an emergency meeting. During the meeting, it was determined that comprehensive industrial action against the State Government would begin on May 3, 2023.

.

The action is in response to the violent disruption of May Day celebrations in Owerri, Imo State, and the Governor’s alleged interference in Congress affairs during the April election of the National Labour Congress.

The directive from the NLC has caused concern among aviation industry stakeholders, as the disruption of flights would not only affect the aviation industry, but also businesses that rely on air transport.

The aviation industry is a significant contributor to the state’s economy, and any disruption to its operations could have devastating effects on the state’s economy.

It is unclear how the state government will respond to the NLC’s directive, but stakeholders are urging both sides to negotiate in order to find a peaceful resolution to the issue.
