Nasarawa to commence first oil drilling March 2023., Says NNPC Limited
In March of 2023, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), will begin drilling its first oil well in the state of Nassarawa as part of its ongoing oil exploration activities in the inland basins of the country.
Malam Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company, made this announcement while the Governor of the State, Abdullahi Sule, was leading a delegation of prominent indigenes of the state on a courtesy visit to the NNPC Ltd. in Abuja. The delegation was led by the Governor of the State.

According to Kyari, in a statement that was released on Friday by Mr. Garbadeen Muhammad, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., Kyari said that the results of exploratory activities confirmed the presence of substantial hydrocarbon resources in the state.
In light of the fact that the global energy transition has resulted in a decrease in investment in fossil fuels, he advocated for immediate action on the project.
Because of the energy transition, it is imperative that this work be completed as quickly as possible.

“The sooner you go to market, the better it will be for you; otherwise, in ten years, no one will agree to put money in the petroleum business unless it comes from your cash flow,” he said. “The earlier you go to market, the better it will be for you.”
In order to avoid the problems that occurred in the Niger Delta, Kyari emphasized the importance of gaining the support of the local community and maintaining an environment that was favorable to work in.
In his response, the governor extended his congratulations to the GCEO on the successful start of oil production and the successful inauguration of the Kolmani Integrated development project in November 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari. Both of these events took place in November 2022.
