Bans Cash Transactions In Govt Offices As Edo Goes Cashless From March 1

The Governor of , , has declared that as of March 1, 2023, Edo State will be completely cashless.

According to him, cash transactions within government agencies will be prohibited beginning on March 1.

This was stated by Obaseki during a Code of Ethics discussion with the senior management of the Edo State civil/public service.

In an effort to promote transparency, the government is pursuing a cashless policy, according to the governor.

Obaseki explained, “As of March 1, I have issued a circular prohibiting the use of cash in government offices.” The government is actively pursuing a cashless economy. Why must the service therefore avoid transparency? Every dollar we spend should be explicable in terms of how we earned it.

“We believe in the civil and public service because we cannot have a functioning government without you.” For the past six years, we have made your well-being a top priority. Every month, salaries and pensions are paid on the 26th. We have remodeled your office space for optimal service delivery. “We are in the midst of a crisis in which we are attempting to change and improve things for you. The majority of you desire this, but many individuals continue to act as they did in the past.

“If we struggle every month to ensure that you receive your salary on time, why do you believe that we should now be focusing on other areas and attempting to make money illegally from other areas?

“We must reduce the level of waste and corruption in our public service. If you require us to do more and make more resources available, then we must all agree to reduce waste and corruption within our system. We must also agree to be fair to the government and the taxpaying public.”
