Obi’s petition against Tinubu, effort in futility – Ned Nwoko

Ned Nwoko, the senator-elect for Delta North, has stated that it is impossible to halt Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s four-year term following his inauguration on May 29.

Nwoko explained that the petition filed against the President-elect at the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal in Abuja may not see the light of day once he is sworn in.

Obi had filed a petition to contest Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election held on February 25.

Obi, who finished third in the election, claimed in his petition that the election was marred by irregularities and requested that Tinubu’s victory be overturned.

However, according to Nwoko, the Labour Party’s poor analysis of the situation and unrealistic expectations led to its loss.

Given the poor performance of the current APC regime, led by President Muhammadu Buhari Nwoko told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that had the opposition parties joined forces, they would have trounced the ruling APC in the election.

Nwoko reiterated that an alliance government would have provided Obi with the ideal opportunity to “save” Nigeria’s economy, as he had promised during his campaigns.

Despite the petitions signed against him, he stated that it was now nearly impossible to prevent Tinubu from becoming president once he was inaugurated.

Nwoko stated, “Once Tinubu is inaugurated as president, he assumes full responsibility for all affairs. He becomes Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, giving them orders and using them as he sees fit. He appoints a new Chief Justice based on the advice of the judicial council.

Therefore, it is nearly impossible to prevent him from completing his four-year term.

“In the future, the PDP and Labour Party must reach an agreement and make the next election more strategic. Only a natural alliance between both parties can save Nigeria from this unlucky government.”

The newly-elected senator asserted that the ruling APC would have suffered a devastating loss in the presidential election if the oppositions had united.

He added that the Labour Party and ‘Obidients’ were too self-absorbed to allow for logical argumentation.

The lawmaker stated, “The opposition would have won by a landslide if the Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party had collaborated.
