OpenAI revealed GPT-4 as the successor to ChatGPT.
GPT-4, the latest version of OpenAI’s hugely popular artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, has been released.
The new model can respond to images, for example, by providing recipe suggestions based on photos of ingredients, as well as writing captions and descriptions.
It can also process up to 25,000 words per second, which is roughly eight times as fast as ChatGPT.
ChatGPT has been used by millions of people since its inception in November 2022.
Popular requests include songwriting, poetry, marketing copy, computer code, and assistance with homework – though teachers advise students not to use it.
ChatGPT responds to questions in natural human-like language, and it can also imitate other writing styles, such as songwriters and authors, by using the internet as it existed in 2021 as its knowledge database.
There are fears that it will one day replace many jobs currently performed by humans.
OpenAI stated that it spent six months developing safety features for GPT-4 and training it using human feedback. However, it warned that it could still spread misinformation.
GPT-4 will first be available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who pay $20 per month for premium service access.
It already serves as the foundation for Microsoft’s Bing search engine platform. The tech behemoth has put $10 billion into OpenAI.
It generated an answer to a complex tax query in a live demo, but there was no way to verify it.
GPT-4, like ChatGPT, is a generative artificial intelligence system. Generative AI employs algorithms and predictive text to generate new content in response to prompts.

According to OpenAI, GPT-4 has “more advanced reasoning skills” than ChatGPT. For example, the model can find available meeting times for three different schedules.
OpenAI also announced new collaborations with language learning app Duolingo and Be My Eyes, a visually impaired app, to develop AI Chatbots that can assist their users using natural language.

However, OpenAI has warned that GPT-4, like its predecessors, is still not fully reliable and may “hallucinate” – a phenomenon in which AI invents facts or makes reasoning errors.
