The Benue state governor ’s convoy was involved in a car accident.

On Friday morning, the incident took place as the convoy was traveling to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign rally in the community of Utokon, in the state’s Ado LGA.

Although no casualties have been reported, a source told this online newspaper that some people had been hurt, including three state house of assembly legislators.

The legislators were taken to the hospital and are now in “stable condition,” the party official continued.

Benson Abounu, the deputy governor of Benue, Abba Moro, the senator for Benue’s northeast, a few members of the house of representatives, and other party officials were among those traveling in the convoy.

According to reports, the bus driver who caused the collision swerved and hit another vehicle.

During a visit to a farm in March 2020, gunmen ambushed Ortom’s convoy at Tyo Mu along the Makurdi-Gboko road.

Ortom described the incident at the time, claiming that the gunmen, who numbered around 15, followed his convoy to the river bank while he was inspecting a farm on foot with his security detail and opened fire on them.

Ten suspects were later detained by the in relation to the attack.
