Suspended Osun PDP members write Atiku, Chairman Ayu
The PDP’s prospects for victory in the 2023 presidential elections may be jeopardized by the actions of the Adekunle Akindele-led caretaker committee, according to several suspended PDP members in Osun State.
The members, who are from the state’s Ayedaade Local Government Area, were suspended for allegedly engaging in anti-party behavior.
They support Dotun Babayemi, the detained PDP leader from Osun.
Segun Odekunmi, the secretary of the PDP Elders Forum in the State, and seven other signatories warned of terrible implications if the Osun PDP conflict was not handled in a plea.
The petition was sent to Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP national chairman, and all members of the party’s National Working Committee. It was titled “Re:Complaints Against the Illegal Suspension of Party Leaders from Ayedaade Local Government of Osun State By the State Caretaker Committee, Pursuant to Articles 57 & 61 of Peoples Democratic Party’s Constitution
“Only in a climate of harmony and respect for one another does our party stand a chance of winning every election at the upcoming general elections. In order to prevent this unfortunate move from consuming our party in the upcoming elections, they hoped that the National Working Committee of their party will timely intervene to fix this aberration.
They said that the Osun PDP caretaker committee was witch-hunting them due to their public support for Dotun Babayemi’s bid for governor, and they called the accusations leveled against them false and absurd.
“We want to make it very clear that the accusations made by our traducers in the party are untrue, without merit, and cannot be supported by any relevant data. The fact that Prince Oyedotun Babayemi is a member of our local government and that we have a moral obligation to support his goals is something we express with all seriousness.
“Supporting Babayemi’s goals never implied anti-party sentiment. We assumed he would prevail in court, so we toiled ceaselessly and nonstop for the party’s victory.
“Suspending party members as the elections drew nearer has the potential to raise misgivings in PDP members’ minds and might significantly impact the party’s chances at the 2023 elections if not quickly handled.”
Adelani Ajanaku, Kehinde Adesiyan, Mayowa Adegboye, Aliyu Adeyanju, Kamorudeen Ojo Elegunmeje, Ajayi Solomon, and Munurudeen Adekunle are the other signatories to the petition.
Dotun Babayemi, a rival Osun PDP candidate for governor, was dismissed from the organization for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.
His expulsion came after he had been suspended by the PDP ward executive members in the State’s Ayedaade Local Government Area.
