Governor of the state Nyesom Wike has withdrawn Senator Lee Maeba’s land’s Certificate of Occupancy at the Golf Course axis of GRA in Port Harcourt.
This online newspaper gathered that Senator Maeba is the president of the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential campaign council in Rivers State and a fervent supporter of the party’s presidential candidate.
Remember that Governor Wike is at odds with his party’s leadership as a result of Iyorchia Ayu, the party chairman, refusing to step down when Atiku, a Northerner, emerged as the party’s flag-bearer for president.
On November 2, 2022, a letter addressed to Senator Maeba included the revocation order. On behalf of the Permanent Secretary, the letter was signed by Ochiagha Onyebuchi, acting Director, Head of Department, Acquisition, Valuation and Compensation, Ministry of Lands and Survey.
The letter, “Re: Allocation of Plot 20A Golf Course Layout, Old GRA Port Harcourt,” contains the following passages.
In accordance with the information in the attached Rivers State Official Gazette No. 22 Vol. 58, dated September 20, 2022, I am required to inform you that your allocation at Plot 20A Golf Course Layout, old GRA, Port Harcourt, has been revoked.
Please accept the Permanent Secretary’s best wishes.
But when reached, Maeba expressed shock at the development in a message to our correspondent, stating,
How is it possible for a governor to issue a certificate of occupancy and then revoke it after six months?
He claimed that a Certificate of Occupancy issued to him by Governor Wike was accompanied with the land’s allocation.
On Thursday, November 3, the publication was made available by the former senator who had served as the National Assembly’s representative for the Rivers South-East District under the aforementioned C of O. It lists the certificate number as 2022/0009/A803005 and the file number as RSL/64872.
A colour portrait of Senator Maeba was embossed on the certificate of occupancy, which read The Government of Rivers State of Nigeria — The Land Use Act Caps vol. 8 len, 2004.
