On Thursday, the Peoples Gazette insisted that the leaked alleged audio conversation between Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and Living Faith Church founder Bishop David Oyedepo is authentic.

 

This comes hours after Obi asserted that the alleged conversation with Oyedepo was fabricated and manipulated.

In response to the report, the former governor instructed his attorneys to take legal action against the news platform.

 

He claims that he has never referred to the 2023 election as a religious war.

In response to Obi’s intention to file a lawsuit, Peoples Gazette stated that it stands by its April 1, 2023 publication of a phone conversation between Obi and Oyedepo.

 

Boladale Adekoya, Deputy Managing Editor of The Gazette, stated on Thursday that the newspaper stands by its publication.

He stated that Obi wants to compel them to reveal the source of the leaked audio at trial, but they will do whatever it takes to protect the source.

Adekoya noted that Obi’s leaked audio clip was properly sourced and authenticated before being played.

According to journalistic standards, the audio and the context surrounding it were properly sourced and authenticated.

 

Adekoya, who emphasised that The Gazette was willing to go to any lengths to protect the clip’s source, stated, “Finally, we maintain unequivocally that we will uphold the principle of source protection to any extent.”
