Breaking: Peter Obi’s strong ally, Kenneth Okonkwo dumps Labour Party, see details

Kenneth Okonkwo, Top Supporter of Peter Obi, Suspends Relationship with Labour Party Faction.

Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent figure within the Labour Party (LP), has announced the suspension of his association with the Julius Abure-led faction of the party. Okonkwo, known for his staunch support of Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, made the declaration via his social media platform.

Citing concerns over the integrity of the LP’s recent national convention held on March 27, 2024, Okonkwo denounced what he described as “criminality and corruption” within the party’s leadership. He emphasized his commitment to principles over political expediency, stating, “I prefer to lose doing the right thing to winning doing the wrong thing.”

Okonkwo’s decision underscores the deepening divisions within the Labour Party, with rival factions led by Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa vying for control. Despite attempts at reconciliation, the rift shows no signs of abating, casting a shadow over the party’s unity and effectiveness.

Having previously resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Okonkwo’s departure marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

His stance against perceived incompetence and corruption reflects broader discontent within the country’s political sphere, as leaders and supporters alike grapple with issues of governance and accountability.
