Police Arrest Two For Possessing 468 PVCs in Prominent Northern State

The Nigeria Police Force has detained two people for possessing 468 Permanent Voters’ Cards.

Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman for Information and Voter Education, made this revelation on Sunday.

The offenders, Nasiru Idris and another (name withheld) were apprehended with 367 and 101 PVCs, respectively, according to the statement.

According to Okoye, their offence violates Sections 117 and 145 of the Electoral Act of 2022.

The statement also said that the offenders were currently being punished appropriately.

“The Nigeria Police has arrested some people found to be in possession of voter’s cards illegally in some States of the Federation,” the statement read.

“In one instance, the Police wrapped up their inquiry and turned over the case file to the Commission, which led to the successful prosecution of one Nasiru Idris at a Magistrate Court in Sokoto after it was discovered that he was in possession of 101 PVCs in violation of Sections 117 and 145 of the Electoral Act 2022.

He was given a one-year prison term.

The police in Kano State also detained a man after discovering 367 PVCs in his possession.

The Commission is pursuing the suspect’s prosecution after charging him in court.
