Moses Olapade, a 56-year-old former boxer for Lagos State, has explained why he punched his wife, Atinuke, who later collapsed and went into a coma in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

 

Olapade was arrested and detained by police after he punched his wife into a coma at 9 Odamo Street, Oke-Aro, in Akure, Nigeria.

Olapade stated that his wife was too obstinate. He explained to the police detectives that he punched her because she refused to give him the television remote control when he requested it.

 

The suspect, a truck driver who twice-weekly traverses the northern region of the country, returned home on the fateful day and wanted to watch a particular television programme, but his wife insisted on watching another.

An unidentified eyewitness stated: “The husband asked the wife to hand over the TV remote control, but she refused. The husband wasted no time as he pounced on her face with several punches.

 

“Neighbours had to intervene to rescue the woman from her husband after the children ran out wailing for assistance.

“When the neighbours entered the house to rescue the woman, they found her unconscious on the floor, and they rushed her to the nearest hospital,”

 

According to reports, the neighbours prevented the husband from fleeing the scene by immediately reporting the incident to the police station.

 

Later, police detectives arrived and whisked the former boxer to the police station for questioning.

 

A victim’s sister confirmed to reporters that the patient was responding to treatment at the hospital.
