In a series of tweets, Hundeyin disclosed that he was approached by an international NGO named Dialogue Earth, formerly known as China Dialogue Trust, with an offer to publish an article criticizing the . The article was intended to cast the refinery as harmful to the environment, using arguments around “Environmental Concerns,” “Climate Change,” and “Energy Transition Policy” to push a narrative that could ultimately lead to the refinery’s closure or restriction.

“The (unstated but clearly implied) thrust of the brief was for a prominent local voice to put their name on an article that is an argument or a premise for the Nigerian government to kill the refinery based on its ‘energy transition commitments’ and ‘environmental policy,’” Hundeyin wrote.

He revealed that the NGO, headed by Oxford professor Sam Geall, is funded by several American intelligence fronts, including the Ford Foundation and ClimateWorks. These organizations have been accused of undermining the development of countries like Nigeria through covert operations. Hundeyin noted that similar activities by these organizations have been blacklisted in India for working against national interests.

Hundeyin’s decision to accept the offer initially was a calculated move to gather evidence. He shared screenshots of the brief to substantiate his claims, emphasizing that this was a deliberate attempt to sabotage Nigeria’s first refinery. He pointed out the irony of the situation, noting that the same organizations were silent when European refiners blended West African fuel cargoes with toxic waste and sulfur content far above European legal limits, causing severe health issues across West Africa. Yet, these entities suddenly became concerned about environmental impact when Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery emerged as a game-changer in the region.

In his exposé, Hundeyin stressed that the agenda against the Dangote Refinery is part of a larger conspiracy by American and European interests to keep Africa dependent and impoverished. He warned that this incident should serve as a wake-up call for Africans to recognize and resist such external manipulations.

“I’m putting this out there publicly so that nobody will henceforth use the term ‘conspiracy theory’ when it is pointed out for the umpteenth time, that there are American and European state and private interests that are heavily invested in keeping Africa exactly as poor as it is,” Hundeyin asserted.

Hundeyin, who is not known to be a fan of Aliko Dangote’s business practices, clarified that his stance was not about supporting Dangote but about refusing to be a pawn in a broader scheme to maintain Africa’s dependency. He called out the orchestrators of this scheme, urging them to fight Dangote directly if they believed their interests were threatened, rather than manipulating African voices to do their bidding.

The revelations by Hundeyin have sparked widespread reactions, with many applauding his integrity and courage in exposing the bribery attempt. This incident also raises significant questions about the role of international NGOs and their influence on African development projects.

David Hundeyin’s refusal to be part of this scheme sends a powerful message: Africa’s destiny is its own to shape, and its people will not be easily manipulated into perpetuating their own poverty.
