Presidential Poll: People like me have given up hope on Nigeria – Pete Edochie
Pete Edochie, a legendary actor, has criticised the outcome of Nigeria’s recent presidential election, stating, “people like me have given up on Nigeria.”
Edochie stated this while commenting on the results of the March 25 presidential election.
In a conversation with our reporter, Ebubedike, who celebrated his 76th birthday this week, stated that Nigeria has reached a point where the old horses must make way for the new breed of politicians to assume power.
He bemoaned a situation in which the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, had promised to electronically transmit the results of the presidential election, only for the electoral official to do the opposite.
His words: “We do not take elections seriously in this country. We held an election in 1993, and it was deemed the best election this country has ever held.
You cannot make light of the movement of the masses. When a revolution begins, it cannot be stopped. In 1781, during the French Revolution, this was the situation.
We cannot continue to recycle septuagenarians, octogenarians, and individuals with diminishing cognitive abilities in government.
According to what I observed during the presidential election, we are not prepared for elections. We are still selecting candidates. How many years have passed since 1993, and we’re still doing all this nonsense? INEC promised to electronically transmit the election results. And when the time came, the electoral official let Nigerians down.
People like us have completely abandoned the country. Before we can get our electoral system right, it will be difficult, lamented Edochie.
