Rabiu Yandoto: Retired Colonel And His Children Abducted In Zamfara

On the Gusau-Tsafe Road in Zamfara State, armed men have seized Rabiu Yandoto, a retired colonel, along with his two children and taken them hostage.

According to Mohammed Hassan, a native of the area, Yandoto was kidnapped by bandits and taken into the forest on the evening of Sunday while he was travelling to his hometown with his two children. Hassan said they were ambushed by the bandits.

According to Hassan, “The bandits ambushed the retired colonel on Sunday night and kidnapped him along with his two children and two other victims.”

Hassan continued by saying, “We heard gunshots and started running into the bush because we were afraid of the bandits, but we later realised that Colonel Yandoto was their target.”

Senator Kabiru Marafa is a close political rival of Yandoto, who has been campaigning against Marafa’s ambition of winning election in 2023. Yandoto has been campaigning against Marafa’s ambitions.

He is the leader of a political group in Zamfara called “Wake da Shinkafa” that is affiliated with the Zamfara All Progressive Congress and has the sole mission of preventing Kabiru Marafa from being elected to the senatorial seat in 2023.

It was unsuccessfully attempted to speak with the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu, as he could not be reached on the phone at the time that this report was being filed.
