Reps write UK government, seek mercy for Ike Ekweremadu

The House of Representatives has formally requested the intervention of the UK government and parliament in the sentencing of Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

 

 

The legislators are requesting that the court exercise leniency and compassion in the lawmaker’s sentencing.

 

The legislators have requested that the federal government take diplomatic measures to “intervene” in the trial of the lawmaker.

Mr. Ekweremadu is scheduled to receive his sentencing on May 5th at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, located in the United Kingdom.

Who is

Ike Ekweremadu is a Nigerian politician who has served in various leadership positions in the country. He was born on May 12, 1962, in Mpu, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Ekweremadu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Master’s degree in Criminal Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was first elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2003 and has been re-elected four times.

In addition to his political career, Ekweremadu is also a lawyer and has written several books on law and governance. He is known for his advocacy for constitutional reforms and has been a strong voice for the protection of human rights and democracy in Nigeria.
