Ajah Shooting: Nothing Will Be Spared Until Justice Is Served Adequately – Sanwo-Olu

After a police officer killed a lawyer in the Ajah neighbourhood of Lagos on Christmas day, Sanwo-Olu has declared that nothing will be spared until justice is served.

The Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has strongly denounced the shooting and death of lawyer Mrs. Bolanle Raheem yesterday under the Ajah bridge by a police officer assigned to the Ajiwe police station.

At the time of the murder, the victim’s family and I were leaving for a Christmas Day celebration.

The governor expressed shock and sadness over the senseless shooting of an innocent bystander by a police officer, whose primary duty was to protect that same citizen, in a statement on Monday.

Sanwo-Olu expressed sympathy to the late Bolanle Raheem’s family, friends, and associates.

In order to ensure that justice is done, he also promised that the state government would fully support and cooperate with the police authorities in their investigation to determine the immediate and remote causes of the shooting that resulted in the untimely death of the innocent citizen.

“I have reviewed the preliminary reports on the issue and have told the relevant government officials to start working on it right away.

We must make sure that the late Bolanle receives swift justice. The governor said, “Our Government cannot watch as law enforcement officials who are supposed to be protecting our citizens kill them.

“I am aware that the police officers involved in the shooting incident have been detained, disarmed, and arrested by the Lagos State police command.

“I can assure you that the accused will have their day in court and that, in accordance with Lagos State law, nothing will be spared until justice is done fairly. Justice delayed is justice denied, so we will make sure it is done quickly.

Sanwo-Olu, however, urged locals to maintain their composure and refrain from enforcing the law on the matter, assuring Lagosians that the government will fulfil its obligations and bring Bolanle Raheem justice.

 

The governor prayed for the victim’s soul to rest and pleaded with God to give her family and friends the strength to endure the irreparable loss.
