In Lagos, a security guard is accused of fatally punching a resident.
Desmond Gudyu, a security guard employed for Corporate Victoria Gardens Security Company, is accused of fatally punching Akeem Nuhu, 26, on Lugard Avenue in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
According to this online media, the suspect, who was hired to watch over a building nearby, promised Nuhu lodging in his security post on the understanding that he would pay rent.
But on Monday, October 10, the dead, a motor boy for a pure water firm, failed to uphold his half of the bargain, and a problem erupted.
They reportedly got into a fight over it, during which Gudyu allegedly hit Nuhu, causing him to fall and die.
The only person residing in the residence at the time was the security guard, a contractor named Ayo Ipadeola who worked nearby.
Nuhu, the victim, was homeless while working at a pure water company. That is why he made a deal with Gudyu to spend the night in his security post in exchange for payment.
He would therefore awaken in the morning, leave for work, and come back in the evening. However, on Monday night after the incident, the security guard asserted that Nuhu was owing him rent, and the two of them got into a verbal altercation. He slightly punched Nuhu during this process. He dropped and passed out.
The victim was transferred to a police hospital in Falomo, where he later passed away, according to another source who spoke to this online media.
He claimed, “He passed away the following morning around 7am. His body was placed in the Ebute-Metta mortuary at the Federal Medical Center for an autopsy.
Under the condition of anonymity, a merchant said that the building’s owners were unaware that the security guard was renting out his apartment.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police’s public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence.
The suspect has been detained, and an investigation is underway, he declared.
