Senate halts proceedings, adjourns plenary till April 25 for easter celebrations

 

To allow senators to observe the Easter and Eid al-Fitr holidays, the Senate has adjourned plenary until April 25, 2023.

 

Ejes Gist News Nigeria gathered that the announcement was made by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday afternoon shortly before the conclusion of plenary in Abuja.

Lawn stated that the lawmakers would be able to participate in religious activities and get much-needed rest during the period.

Meanwhile, The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 7, and Monday, April 10, 2023 as holidays to commemorate Easter this year.

 

Rauf Aregbesola, minister of the interior, made the announcement in Abuja.

Aregbesola, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Begore, on Wednesday, urged Christians to emulate the virtues of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace, and patience exemplified by the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

 

The minister urged Christians and all Nigerians to use this year’s Easter celebration to pray for an end to the country’s security problems in certain regions.

 

Aregbesola stated, “Security is everyone’s responsibility. I therefore urge Nigerians and foreigners residing in our country to demonstrate a strong sense of citizenship and patriotism by supporting the efforts of all security agencies to bring peace and security to the lives and property of the citizenry.”

The minister assured that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to ensure a peaceful transition of power following the conduct of peaceful elections.

In addition to wishing Christians at home and in the Diaspora a joyful and peaceful Easter, he urges them to love their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity of spirit, with the wealthy sharing their resources with the less fortunate.

 

Aregbesola reassures Nigerians once more that the nation is persistently on the path to greatness and urges everyone to deploy their creative energy constructively for the full realisation of the forthcoming prosperity.
