Daniel Olugbenga Aluko,also known as Gbenga Aluko, is a Nigerian politician who was born on July 20, 1963. At the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, he was elected Senator for the Ekiti South constituency in Ekiti State, Nigeria, on the People’s Democratic Party () platform. On May 29, 1999, he was sworn in as President.

Daniel Olugbenga Aluko was born on July 20, 1963, in Ekiti State, Nigeria, to Professor Sam Aluko, a prominent Nigerian economist.

He attended Federal College in Ilorin before enrolling at the University of Benin, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in geography and regional planning in 1982.

He then pursued a Post Graduate Course in International Oil Trading and Pricing at the College of Energy and Petroleum Studies in Oxford, England.

Managing Director/CEO of HYGYNIX, Executive Director of Baseline Petroleum and Chemicals, and Executive Chairman of Independent Strategists were among the positions held between 1983 and 1999.

From 1993 to 1995, he served as Special Assistant to the Minister of Transport and Aviation and General Manager of the Nigeria Shipper’s Council.

Aluko was appointed to committees on Selection, Senate Services (vice chairman), Aviation, Women Affairs, Finance & Appropriation, Social Development & Sports, and Local & Foreign Debts after being elected to the Senate in June 1999.

He was named the Senate’s Deputy Chief Whip.

Later, he was named Chairman of the Petroleum Committee and Vice Chairman of the Gas Committee.
Plans to privatise the Nigerian Mint were opposed by Aluko.

He was named Chairman of an ad hoc committee to investigate the Central Bank of Nigeria’s controversial closure of Savannah Bank.

He seconded a motion in September 2002 to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate alleged constitutional and budgetary violations by President , which could lead to impeachment.

Aluko took over as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the from Oserheimen Osunbor in October 2002.

Senator Idris Kuta chaired a panel that investigated financial improprieties by Senators, and Aluko was among those indicted by the panel.

The panel and a subsequent ad hoc committee chaired by Senator Victor Oyofo issued reports concluding that Aluko had overcharged for senators’ quarters repairs and overpriced computers and office equipment supplied to senators, and recommending that he refund the excess.

However, the Senate adopted a motion proposed by Aluklo in September 2002, which stated that the Senate should absolve all Senators implicated in both reports.

Aluko continued in private enterprise after leaving the Senate, holding a controlling interest in Alstegg and Midlands, a Civil Engineering Firm, and serving as a Director of Crest Healthcare, a Consultant to DFID on Parliamentary Matters, and the Director of Government Affairs for Chevron Nigeria.
He defected from the PDP to join the Labour Party, where he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Ekiti State in 2007.
Aluko rejoined the PDP in December 2009.
