Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic scholar, has advised Nigerians, with less than ninety days left until the elections in 2023, to vote for candidates who have pledged not to fight bandits if they are elected into office.

A controversial Islamic cleric recently delivered a sermon in which he urged Nigerians to vote for political candidates who would, if elected, engage in peaceful negotiations with bandits.

“Refrain from voting for those who will engage in banditry. The combatants, also known as bandits, are our people.

Therefore, he pleaded with the audience to cast their ballots for “those who, after achieving power, will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) in order to give them what they want for peace to prevail.”
