Wednesday saw the resignation of Joseph Albasu Kunini, speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly.
John Kizito Bonzina, a representative of the Zing constituency, was swiftly chosen by the house to serve as the new Speaker.

2019 saw the election of Kunini, who ran on the PDP platform.
Everyone was surprised when he read his letter of resignation on the House floor because there had been no altercation between House members.

“I am resigning for personal reasons. During my time as speaker of this honourable House, I appreciate the support and cooperation of the honourable members, he said.
In his first speech as the new speaker, Bonzina refuted the claim that the members staged a palace coup in order to unseat the speaker.

He pledged to work nonstop to build on the accomplishments of the previous speaker while enlisting the help of his colleagues.

Though no explanation for the former speaker’s resignation was provided, ejesgist.ng learned that it was necessary for him to step down in order to support the parliamentary staffers who have been clamouring for their unpaid outfit allowances for the past seven years because it was rumoured that plans to impeach him were already in the works.
