NAF Officers Crushed To Death At Kwara Checkpoint
In Kwara State, a trailer lost brake and rammed into two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers, crushing them to death.
Tension between members of the air force and the local population resulted from the incident, which happened near Pasa Bridge in Eyenkorin, about 200 metres from the NAF base.
Shola Muse, the community policing advisory committee’s secretary for Kwara State, stated that efforts were being made to control the situation.
He stated to newsmen that because of the brewing tension, “I have called the police command to come to the place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”
When our reporter arrived on the scene on Tuesday, there were stern-looking NAF officers and a patrol car with the licence plate AF 496 C01.
According to a witness who only went by the name Alhaji Pasa, “The officers were on duty when the truck crushed two of them and critically injured one as it was approaching the air force checkpoint after its break failed.
“The truck driver tried to flee after the incident, but the officers shot him in the legs. The residents had requested that the checkpoint be moved, but to no avail.
Okasanmi Ajayi and Frederick Ade Ogidan, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer and Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), respectively, confirmed that they were aware of the incident when contacted.
Ogidan stated, “I also heard about it, but I do not have the details; perhaps the casualties were evacuated before my men arrived.
But when reached, Mathew Adeniyi, the NAF’s Ilorin Civil/Military Relations Officer, questioned our correspondent, “Who gave you that information? I am currently on vacation, so I will have to go to the corporate office to find out. I apologise for that.
