On Monday, the Lagos State Police Command denounced the killing of lawyer Bolanle Raheem by an unnamed police officer in the state’s Ajah region.
In a statement, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, said the errant officer had been detained as the command began an investigation into the victim’s death on Christmas day.

The officer violated standard operating procedures, according to Hundeyin, who described the incident as one too many in the Ajah region of the state.
He added that a review of the police rules of engagement would be undertaken to put an end to such cases.
Lawyer Bolanle Raheem was shot and killed by a police officer in Ajah on December 25, 2022, according to Hundeyin.
The commissioner of police for Lagos State Command, Abiodun Alabi, sent his condolences to Raheem’s family, friends, and coworkers.
Police shot my husband and buried him without informing our family, an Edo woman said.

The misbehaving officer and his team members have since been taken into custody per the CP’s orders.
Additionally, the CP has ordered that the case be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for a thorough investigation.
Considering that a similar incident happened at the same location less than three weeks ago, this has become one incident too many. The scandalous incident violated the force’s standard operating procedures and rules of engagement and is, to put it mildly, abhorrent.
In an effort to stop such avoidable ugly incidents, the Nigeria Police Force will review its rules of engagement following this incident.
