UK opens door for Nigerian teachers

Beginning in February 2023, Nigerian nationals will be able to apply for qualified teacher status through the Teaching Regulation Agency in the United Kingdom, .

The offer is extended to Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Singapore, South Africa, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe, among other foreign nations.

The application for interested non-UK citizens was announced in an early December publication on the website of the UK government by its Department for Education.

The applicants do not even need to have prior teaching experience because the nation provides a training programme for prospective immigrants.

“Teachers who qualify in the following nine countries (listed above) will also be able to apply to the QTR through the TRA as of February 1, 2023,” the notice stated.

“The introduction of a new service includes this change.

“To be awarded the QTS, teachers from all eligible nations must demonstrate that they meet a set of uniform requirements. This route will eventually be made available to qualified teachers from every nation outside of the UK.

“You do not need a formal teacher training degree to apply for assessment-only QTS.

But you need to have at least two years of teaching experience.

Other things needed are;

A first (bachelor’s) degree from a UK or non-UK university, an English language qualification of the same standard as a grade four General Certificate of Secondary Education, a math qualification of the same standard as a grade four GCSE, and a physics, chemistry, or biology (science) qualification of the same standard as a grade four GCSE are all required to teach children aged three to 11 in primary school.
