Victor Boniface scored twice to help Union Berlin and USG play to a 3-3 draw.
After a stellar performance against Union Berlin, Nigerian forward Victor Boniface was named the UEFA Europa League Player of the Week.
His team, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, played at Stadion a Der Alten Försterei on Thursday night for the first leg of their Europa League match.
During the six-goal thriller, the German and Belgian teams kept scoreless stalemates with the former Bodo/Glimt star scoring twice.
At 28 minutes in, the ex-Flying Eagles attacker scored his first goal of the game by creating some space outside the box and firing a shot into the top right corner.
Josip Juranovic’s first-half free kick tied the game for the home team, and then Yorbe Vertessen gave the visitors the lead in the second half before Robin Knoche equalized.
Victor Boniface put the rivals ahead with a shot that went in off goalkeeper Frederik Rennow in the final minutes of the second half. Then, Sven Michel tied the score after coming off the bench.

As a result of his efforts, he was named the UEFA Europa League player of the week, besting Bruno Fernandes (2nd), Edmond Tapsoba (3rd), and Paulo Dybala (4th)
