Chief Edwin Clark, a former South-South leader and Federal Commissioner for Information, has explained why he supported Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, in the upcoming election.
According to Clark, he is supporting Obi because Nigeria’s next leader needs to be well-educated and experienced.

He asserted that an Obi presidency would also foster a sense of equity that would encourage the South-East to participate equally in politics.
The time has come for a leader from the South-East geopolitical zone to take charge of Nigeria, according to the National Leader of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF.
Speaking to reporters yesterday at his Asokoro, Abuja home, Clark, who doubles as the head of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, urged the young people not to accept bribes, stating that Nigerians needed a transparent president with all the leadership qualities they desired.
They want to use you, Clark said (youths). Do not accept any bribes from anyone. We want a president who is open and honest, strong and intelligent, united as a body, and who possesses all of the desirable leadership qualities. We do not want a president who needs to be persuaded to bend over in order to see if he will fall or stand.
“We want a president whose age should not be a question. We do not want a president who will alter his age every year.
The Top South South Leader also implored political, religious, and ethnic organizations to back Obi
The eminent statesman and Ijaw leader urged all Nigerians, regardless of their racial, religious, or political affiliations, to cast their votes for Peter Obi without hesitation because he represents the country’s best chance for a new Nigeria of peace, stability, and development.
Clark said that he was supporting Obi for the position of Nigeria’s next president because of his reiterated support for reorganising and decentralising power in a way that would foster harmony and peaceful coexistence among the states and other parts of the nation.
He claims that another reason he is supporting Obi is because of his vision for greater equity and justice in relation to the South-South, which, over the past 60 years, has generated a large portion of the country’s revenue but has been neglected with little effect on infrastructure and social development.
In his speech titled “Peter Obi, my Choice for the 2023 Presidential election,” Clark revealed that, at his direction, the national leadership of PANDEF met with Obi on Friday, December 23, 2022, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where, following discussions, Obi met the group’s and Niger- Delta’s expectations.
