Reaction Trails Wike naming new Rivers courthouse after wife
Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has come under fire for naming the state’s new courthouse after his wife, Suzette Eberechi.
“Every day, people tell Wike that he is generous. Is it bad if I’m kind to myself? So, as I leave, let me name that one (courthouse) after my wife,” Wike said.
The Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (LGA) built the Magistrate Court on Moscow Road.
The structure was one of the projects commissioned by President-elect Bola Tinubu during his visit to the state on Wednesday.
Aziz Bakare, a Twitter user, sparked a debate over the weekend when he chastised Wike for acting as if he owned state funds.
Bakare said in a tweet that received hundreds of angry responses that the confidence to make such a comment after constructing a public facility with tax payers’ money was “incredible.”
“To make matters worse, the wife is a Judge in the same state.” Is the NJC still active, in addition to the NBA? How is this moral?
“Governor Wike’s actions did not end there. He allegedly also named other buildings in the courthouse after the current Chief Justice and other judges.”
Bakare stated that Tinubu’s team’s due diligence “should have revealed that such an ethical blunder should not have been part of his first “public duty.”
