Wike vows to jail politicians disobeying his Executive Order 21, 22

of Rivers State issued a warning on Wednesday, stating that politicians who disobey Executive Orders 21 and 22 will face jail time.

The governor outlined the purpose of the Executive Orders, stating that they forbade political parties—including the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—from holding political rallies on the grounds of public schools without the necessary authorization and payment of a N5 million non-refundable security fee.

At the Ahoada State School in the Ahoada East Local Area, Wike gave a speech at the opening of the Ahoada-Omoku dual carriageway.

The governor noted that some politicians had already boasted that they would ignore Executive Orders because they were irrelevant because they had the Army and Police on their side.

Such politicians were challenged by Wike to defy the rules and see if they would not wind up in jail.

“All I have said is that you need to deposit money if you want to use elementary and secondary schools for your campaigns.

“This is so that once you use the space and damage anything in the school, the government can use the funds to fix your damages and clean the facility.

“There are those who claim they would disobey, but nobody would act.

The governor gave an explanation of how the purpose of the Executive Orders was to control political activity in order to reduce annoyances and advance public tranquility.

“Someone is returning to his home, but he is unable to do so.”
