Consequently, we will cover all of this and much more in this live blog. If you keep this tab open throughout the day, you will be informed of all today’s World Cup news.

Which club has the most semi-finalists?

Argentina, Croatia, France and Morocco are the final four remaining in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, each in search of a place in the final.

Which clubs are the best represented? Bayern Munich lead the way with six, while two LaLiga side have five each.

Tradition dictates that the two FIFA World Cup semifinals will be played on separate days, with one on Tuesday, December 13 and the other on Wednesday, December 14.

It does mean that one of the World Cup finalists will receive an additional day of rest prior to Sunday, December 18’s final.

The teams that fall short in the semifinals will have one last opportunity to finish the tournament on a high note in the third-place match held the night before the championship.

In the quarterfinals, Croatia stunned the world by defeating Brazil on penalty kicks. On Tuesday, Croatia will face either the Netherlands or Argentina in the first semifinal.

Argentina would likely be favoured against Croatia, but this is not a sure thing. In the group stage of the most recent World Cup, Croatia defeated Argentina 3-0. Their overall record is even with two wins each and a draw. They split their only two World Cup encounters, with Argentina claiming a 1-0 victory in 1998.

If there are two quarterfinal upsets, there could be an all-European semifinal between the Netherlands and Croatia, with both teams seeking their first World Cup title.

These two nations have only met twice, with the Netherlands claiming a 3-0 victory in a 2008 friendly and Croatia defeating the Netherlands in the 1998 World Cup third-place match.

World Cup Semi Finals 2022 Schedule news

An all-European matchup — England vs. Portugal or France vs. Portugal — would be enthralling, as a talented and underrated Portuguese side would look to cause an upset and take Cristiano Ronaldo to his first World Cup final with a chance to win the trophy in what will likely be his last tournament.

The World Cup Semi Finals 2022 and other news

How the semi finals work

The semifinals, like the previous knockout rounds, will be single elimination, with a winner determined after each match.

If the teams are tied after 90 minutes of regulation, they will be given 30 minutes of extra time to decide a winner. The extra time session is not the end of the world. (In other words, it’s not a ‘next-goal-win’ or ‘golden goal’ situation.)

How penalty shootout works

If the teams are still tied after extra time, the game will be decided by a penalty shootout, in which each team takes turns attempting to score from the penalty spot. After five attempts, the team with the most successful conversions is declared the winner. If the teams are still tied after five kicks, an extra round will be added until the deadlock is broken.

World Cup semifinal history.

The 28 available quarterfinal slots in the seven men’s World Cup tournaments held since 1994 have been occupied by the 16 nations listed below, with six making multiple appearances at this stage.

Twelve of the sixteen nations are from Europe, three are from South America, and the only one from Asia is South Korea, which made an unexpected run to the final four when they co-hosted the tournament.

Only Morocco, if they beat Portugal in the quarterfinals in 2022, would be a first-time semifinalist.
