Oyibo Nwani, a leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state of Ebonyi, was murdered by thugs.

Nwani was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants who stormed his polling unit in the Onicha Local Government Area of the state, where he served as a party agent during the governorship and State House of Assembly Elections on Saturday, March 18.

According to The Punch, governorship candidate Chief Ifeanyi Odii hails from Onicha LGA.

Sources in the area confirmed that the thugs allegedly infiltrated the polling location to forcibly remove ballot boxes while youths and other voters resisted frantically.

According to reports, an altercation occurred during the process, and the PDP leader who was holding a ballot box so tightly was shot in the head.

SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the police spokesperson for the state of Ebonyi, has confirmed that Nwani was murdered by the thugs.

Prof. Teddy Charles Adias, returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, declared Senator Otu the victor on Monday, March 20. (INEC).

Sen. Sandy Onor of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who received 179,619 votes, was defeated by election winner Otu, who received 258,619 votes.
