“South West Activist Urges Federal Government: Nnamdi Kanu’s Life Must Be Preserved in Prison”

In a recent statement, political activist Ayomipe Jatto issued a warning to the federal government, emphasizing that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), should not meet his demise while in prison.

Jatto, speaking from the South West region, called upon the leaders of the Igbo ethnic-nationality to unite and address the sit-at-home syndrome, which he described as a destructive force that could harm the region even further.

Highlighting the ongoing controversy surrounding Kanu’s continued detention by the Department of State Service in Abuja, despite court rulings in favor of his release, Jatto stressed that the southeastern region had become a battleground without external aggression, but rather due to internal conflicts that lacked unity.

He pointed out that the southeastern region was in a state of internal strife, witnessing attacks on innocent primary school children and the burning of Igbo markets by Nnamdi Kanu’s followers.

Jatto further cautioned against the possibility of Kanu dying in prison due to his pursuit of Biafra Republic’s independence from Nigeria.

Expressing his concern, Jatto noted the seemingly impossibility of Kanu’s release, even with a court order granting him bail. He urged President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led government to address the issue promptly.

“There are several other pending cases against him in the courts, but only one has granted him bail. It is crucial for Mr. President to swiftly address these cases to prevent a civil war, which, according to a visionary, may last for 7 months and 3 weeks. Resolving this matter necessitates a political solution from the presidency and discussions with Eastern elites.

The ongoing acts of violence, such as targeting and mistreating school children and the burning of Amaraku market, are inhumane and will have severe psychological effects on the children. Nigeria is self-destructing and unfortunately will remain stagnant.

The people in the southeast must come together and unify their voices, while those in the Diaspora who have been providing financial support and claiming that Fulani herdsmen are targeting their women are now realizing that the threat to the southeast does not solely come from the Fulani, but from the lack of unity within the region itself.

Regarding the sit-at-home orders frequently issued by the pro-Biafra group in the southeast, Mr. Jatto expressed his opinion that engaging in massive protests is more effective than staying at home. He believes that Easterners cannot stay at home indefinitely under the guise of seeking Nnamdi Kanu’s release from prison. In his view, it is self-deception and adversely affects the businesses of the impoverished Igbo people.

The South West political activist urged President Bola Tinubu to grant freedom to the pro-Biafra secessionist, whom he considers a strong leader in the southeast region. He believes that such an action will help restore peace and stability in the country.”
