The Commander was attempting to comply with the order of Justice Nicholas Oweibo, who had granted Emefiele bail and remanded him in the custody of the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending bail satisfaction.

However, the DSS operatives disregarded the court order, insisting that they had their own orders to take Emefiele into their custody.

Earlier, armed Prisons officials were ready to carry out the court order as well. Nevertheless, the situation took a heated turn when the DSS operatives, who were also present in significant numbers, used their vehicles to block the court gates, effectively preventing the Prisons officials from leaving with Emefiele.

Amidst the chaos, Emefiele had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of possessing a firearm without a license. Nevertheless, he remains unable to leave the courtroom due to the ongoing conflict between the two sister agencies.

This incident has drawn attention to the challenges and complexities of law enforcement operations and custody management in Nigeria’s legal system. Further details are awaited as authorities attempt to resolve the confrontation and its implications on the case.
