Dr. Amos Dangut Appointed as New Head of WAEC’s National Office.

 

LAGOS, Nigeria – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Amos Dangut as its new Head of National Office (HNO), succeeding Mr. Patrick Areghan, whose tenure recently concluded.

Dr. Dangut’s appointment was made public in a statement issued by Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC. Dr. Dangut, who had previously served as the Deputy Registrar of the HNO’s office, assumes his new role with a wealth of experience within the organization.

Mr. Patrick Areghan, who stepped down as the Head of National Office on October 1, 2023, had taken over the position on March 5, 2020, and during his tenure, he made significant contributions to the council.

Dr. Dangut’s journey within WAEC began in 1998 when he joined as an Assistant Registrar (AR) II. Over the years, he diligently climbed the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar in April 2018. His dedication and commitment to the organization were further recognized when he received the Nigeria Examinations Committee’s commendation for transparent conduct of examinations from 2000 to 2006.

Throughout his career at WAEC, Dr. Dangut served in various capacities, including as an Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer of Examinations Security and Deputy to the branch Controller at the Uyo office between January 2005 and January 2008. He later took on the role of Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the branch Controller at the Bauchi office from January 2008 to December 2011.

Continuing his impactful journey, Dr. Dangut held the position of Senior Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller at the Yola office from December 2011 to January 2019 and subsequently served as Deputy Registrar/Controller of the Post Examinations Department from January 2019 to October 2020.

In addition to his administrative roles, Dr. Dangut also served as Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator at the Ikeja Zonal Office.

Notably, during his 25 years of dedicated service, Dr. Dangut championed the innovative use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to enhance various processes related to Test Development, Test Administration, and Post Test Activities within WAEC.

Beyond his administrative roles, Dr. Dangut is recognized as an accomplished scholar, with numerous educational publications featured in both international and national journals. He has also delivered keynotes and presented papers at various international and national conferences and fora.

Dr. Dangut’s commitment to education is further demonstrated through his active membership in organizations such as the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

His appointment as the new Head of National Office signifies a new chapter for WAEC under the leadership of Dr. Amos Dangut, who brings a wealth of experience and innovation to the role.
