Former Nigerian Army Properties Limited Chief Faces Judgment Following Guilty Verdict.
Abuja, Nigeria – A Special Court Martial, convened by the Nigerian Army, is set to deliver its judgment on Tuesday following the recent conviction of Major General Umar Mohammed, the former Group Managing Director and Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), on multiple counts of charges.

The Special Court Martial, located in Abuja, found Major General Mohammed guilty on 14 out of 18 counts of charges, including theft and various other violations contrary to service laws.
The charges leveled against the general spanned a range of offenses, including stealing, forgery, conspiracy, theft, and unauthorized diversion of Army property, among others.
One of the charges that resulted in his guilty verdict implicated General Mohammed in the collection of $1.045 million, funds paid by shipping companies for the use of the Nigerian Army Jetty in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Additionally, he was found guilty of theft involving $430,800, money paid into the Nigerian Army Domiciliary account at Unity Bank, Abuja, intended for the use of the Nigerian Army Jetty in Marina, Lagos.
The court martial also convicted him of withdrawing and confiscating N74 million out of N75 million designated for a Nigerian Army property in Ikoyi, Lagos.
However, General Mohammed was acquitted of allegations that he sold Army property valued at N200 million in Lagos, as well as accusations of stealing N750 million from the N2.5 billion secured from banks and contributions from subscribers for an Army housing estate in Asokoro, Abuja.
Furthermore, he was not found guilty of charges related to the forging of a Deed of Agreement document in connection with the confiscation of another Army property in Lagos.
The Special Court Martial, presided over by Major General Kames Myam with seven other Major Generals as members and a Brigadier General as Judge Advocate, is expected to announce the sentences for the accused on Tuesday.
General Mohammed maintained during the court-martial that he had acted on the directive and instruction of his superior in the disposal of properties and funds under scrutiny. Despite being brought into the court in a wheelchair, the President of the court, Maj-Gen Myan, affirmed that all necessary medical checks had been conducted, confirming his fitness to stand trial.
Colonel BA Oguntayo (retired) led the prosecution’s legal team, while Olalekan Ojo (SAN) served as the lead counsel for the defense.
