The Supreme Court is to rule on the future of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
This verdict will determined whether Nnamdi Kanu would regain his freedom or remain in custody, marking a pivotal moment in a case that has garnered widespread attention.

The court set the stage for this momentous judgment in October, following the conclusive arguments presented by legal representatives from both sides.
Nnamdi Kanu Representatives Are Hoping For His Release
Chief Mike Ozehkome, advocate for Kanu, passionately pleaded for his client’s immediate release and called for “heavy and punitive costs” against the government.
Conversely, Tijani Gazzali, representing the government, urged the court to uphold the amended brief filed earlier in the year, seeking to dismiss the Court of Appeal’s decision to release Kanu and resume his trial on terrorism charges.
The saga dates back to 2015 when Kanu, a former London estate agent and radio host, was initially arrested on charges of treason and terrorism. Subsequently, he jumped bail, fleeing the country and surfacing in the UK and Israel.
In a controversial turn of events in 2021, he was extradited back to Nigeria, a move deemed “illegal” by the Court of Appeal. Despite the landmark judgment in October 2022 ordering his release, government appeals have kept Kanu behind bars.
