A group in US under the guise of MOSOP-USA  appeals to Tinubu to create an Ogoni State.

In a fervent plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People in the United States of America (MOSOP-USA) has called for the establishment of Ogini state for the Ogoni people, citing years of perceived marginalization and the need for self-determination.

The Ogonis, residing in the Rivers south-east senatorial district with a population slightly over 2 million, have endured what MOSOP-USA terms as “deep trouble.” The diaspora-based group emphasizes the alleged neglect of Ogoni interests and the urgent requirement for President Tinubu’s intervention.

Dinebari Augustine Kpuinen, the president of MOSOP-USA, conveyed the group’s concerns, asserting, “We want President Tinubu to influence the creation of an Ogoni state where Ogoni’s can have control of their affairs.”

The group expressed discontent over the reported marginalization of Ogoni people and underscored their right to participate and benefit from Nigeria’s abundant wealth.

Furthermore, the group called for a thorough investigation into the alleged misappropriation of $300,000,000, accusing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of fraudulently receiving compensation from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) intended for Ogoni development. MOSOP-USA contends that Wike, not being Ogoni, should not handle funds earmarked for Ogoni’s progress.

Amid these calls for a dedicated Ogoni state, recent developments indicate that crude oil production in the Ogoni region has resumed, following an Appeal Court judgment affirming the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation’s operatorship of Oil Mining License 11 (OML 11).

As the Ogoni people press for self-determination and equitable representation, President Tinubu is urged to consider their plea for the establishment of an Ogoni state, potentially expanding Nigeria’s states to 37 and addressing the longstanding concerns of this marginalized community.
