Senate Urges Immediate Compensation for Families of Slain Army Personnel

The Senate has urged the Federal Government to promptly compensate the families of the 16 army officers and soldiers who were murdered. This call came during a session held on Tuesday, where senators observed a minute of silence to honour the military personnel who lost their lives last Thursday in Okuama Community, Delta State.

At the session, a motion of urgent importance regarding the killing of the Nigerian Army personnel and the necessity for an immediate investigation was put forward by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua.

Following the adoption of the motion, the Senate instructed the Committees on Army, Navy, and Defence to collaborate with the Nigerian Army in conducting an investigation into the matter.

Additionally, the Red Chamber urged the federal government to ensure that those accountable for this heinous crime are identified, apprehended, and subjected to the full consequences of their actions through a fair and transparent legal process.

It is worth recalling that the tragic incident occurred in the Okuama community, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, where 16 Nigerian Army officers and soldiers were killed while on a peace mission.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in a statement released on Monday, disclosed that among the slain army personnel were the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion, two majors, one captain, and 12 other personnel of the battalion.
