EFCC to Arraign Cubana Chiefpriest Over Alleged Naira Abuse

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced plans to arraign Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chiefpriest, on charges related to alleged naira abuse.

This decision comes in the wake of a recent six-month jail sentence handed to popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, for similar offenses.

According to the anti-graft agency, Cubana Chiefpriest is scheduled to appear before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday to face allegations of spraying and tampering with the naira.

Cubana Chiefpriest Vs EFCC

The charges were outlined in a charge sheet filed on April 4, 2024, by EFCC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo, along with seven other lawyers representing the agency’s chairman.

 

The charge sheet accuses Cubana Chiefpriest of tampering with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) during various social events.

One incident allegedly occurred on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, where Cubana Chiefpriest was said to have sprayed the currency for two hours while dancing. Similar incidents are cited to have taken place in Lagos in 2020 and January 2024.

The charges levied against Cubana Chiefpriest are in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007, which prohibits the unauthorized tampering or defacement of the national currency.
