Phyna, the winner of Season 7 of BBNaija and whose real name is Josephine Otabor, revealed that she embarked on a journey of hustling at the tender age of three in order to make ends meet.

She shared that she began working at her aunt’s restaurant, where she was residing at that time. When she was three years old, her father entrusted her to live with his older sister in Auchi.

The young star explained that her education was put on hold during Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) when her father suffered a severe accident. She stayed by his side in the hospital for two years.

Imagine a scenario where a young girl finds herself working at a restaurant at an incredibly young age. At the age of three, I was already serving customers in a restaurant.

Then, there came a point when my father had an accident, and someone needed to be by his side in the hospital. I had just completed my JSS3 at that time, and I had to accompany my father as he was transferred from one hospital to another. As a result, I missed out on SS1 and SS2.

When I returned to school, they insisted that I should go back to SS1, but I was determined to join my peers in SS3. They put me through a series of exams, and I passed.

However, my parents believed that it would be nearly impossible for me to pursue further education, so they felt it was best for me to learn a trade. It was at this point that I realized I had to start hustling, as circumstances demanded it.

I attended a federal school, and I recall my school fees being N14,500 at that time. It was during this period that my journey of hustling truly began.

I started making meat pies and buns, became the class representative, and even offered hairstyling services. I would save as little as N50. We would attend events, dance, get paid, and share the earnings amongst ourselves.

After completing school, I went on to serve in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), while also taking on part-time jobs. It was during this time that I discovered my talent for hyping.

I accompanied my friends to the club one day, listened to the hype guy, and realized that I could do what he was doing.

That’s how I got into it. Even after my time in the Big Brother House, some of my friends would say, “Phyna, you hustle as if you haven’t won any money at all.” I would reply, “Money is being depleted, my friend.”
