…releasing Nnamdi Kanu will reduce crime in the South-East by 50%

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose’s younger brother, Isaac Fayose, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and offer him contracts similar to those given to Niger Delta militant leader, Tompolo, by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a video posted on his Instagram handle, Isaac Fayose stated that releasing Kanu would help Tinubu gain more votes from the Southeast in 2027 and significantly reduce insecurity in the region. Fayose believes that, similar to the peace achieved in the Niger Delta with Tompolo’s involvement, a contract for Kanu could bring stability to the Southeast.

Fayose argued, “releasing Nnamdi Kanu will reduce crime in the South-East by 50%. And APC will get more votes in 2027. If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give a contract to Tompolo to have peace in the Niger Delta, why can’t we do the same in the South-East?”

He further elaborated, “If we are spending so much money on security in the Southeast, the money will be reduced by 50% releasing Kanu. If I were President Tinubu, after the election, when I noticed that the Southeast people didn’t vote for me, I would have released Kanu to counter them; releasing Kanu can make some of them say, ‘oh this man has a good intention’”.

Fayose’s call for Kanu’s release comes amid ongoing appeals by Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and other Nigerians for President Tinubu to free Kanu.

What is Isaac Fayose saying?

Isaac Fayose’s appeal to President Tinubu use strategy to address both the political and security issues in the Southeast.
